Silverdale Waterfront Park expects a Sept. 1 reopening of playground

The Silverdale Waterfront Park playground has been closed the entire summer for the installation of a new Nike Grind surface, but it now looks like it will finally be reopened by Sept. 1.

The playground closed on June 10 to replace the wood chips with a soft Nike Grind play surface made of ground-up, used athletic shoes that were donated by the community. The Reuse-A-Shoe project was spearheaded by Leadership Kitsap and Kitsap County Public Works.

In April, county officials learned that they were awarded the $20,000 grant from Nike that they had been hoping for. But there was a delay in the project when county officials learned that No Fault, a company licensed to install the surface, was not bonded to work in Washington
