Bremerton officer involved in shooting

An unidentified, longtime Bremerton police officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure, pending an investigation following his shooting of a knife-wielding woman at a Naval Avenue apartment complex Sunday night.

Police responded to the apartment complex in the 1900 block of Naval Avenue at 10:25 p.m. Sunday. According to police, once on scene, officers were confronted by a female suspect that was armed with two knives. When the suspect advanced on one of the officers, the officer fired multiple rounds striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The Kitsap County Investigative Response Team (KCIRT), led by the Washington State Patrol, responded to the scene to conduct the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

The Bremerton Police Department currently does not have any information regarding the female suspect’s injuries or condition.

The officer involved in the shooting has been an officer with the Bremerton Police Department since 1996.

Lieutenant Pete Fisher said that the Bremerton Police Department does not anticipate any additional information becoming available until late this afternoon, Monday, Aug. 12.
