County hires Idaho veteran to manage Veterans Assistance Program

Last week Air Force veteran Tom Vialpando assumed the administrative duties of the Kitsap County Veterans Assistance Program, which includes providing staff support to the county's Veterans Advisory Board and overseeing the Kitsap Community Resources contract which offers temporary emergency assistance to individual veterans.

The position is half-time.  He replaces Jim McKenna, who was managing the program as well as staffing the Olympic Workforce Development Council full time.

Tom has extensive experience working with veteran and housing programs in both the nonprofit and private sectors.  He served with US Air Force Reserve from 1989 to 1995, including active duty during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Tom has a BA in Sociology and an AA in Criminal Justice.
