Man defends self with broom

Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Aug. 24 after callers reported a fight on a cul de sac at the end of Nobles Lane in Bremerton.

When deputies arrived, a man holding a broom in his hand greeted them, noting he was not hurt. The man had called in about his 35-year-old girlfriend who had become increasingly agitated along their walk back to a travel trailer where they lived. When he asked her to “quiet down,” she got louder instead.

They argued all the way back to the trailer, where he allowed her to go inside to cool down, according to charging documents. He heard her throwing things around before she came outside to yell at him. After trying to get into his truck to leave, she opened the door and began screaming at him that she was going to cut him with the knife in her hand. He exited the truck and grabbed a broom to defend himself as his girlfriend continued screaming. When he took his cell phone out to call 911, she walked over and punctured his tire and left through the woods.

Deputies caught up with her and arrested her for domestic violence malicious mischief in the third degree and harassment.
