Bremerton ferry service back on after terrorist threat

A terrorist threat shut down the Bremerton ferry terminal and the surrounding area this afternoon.
Trooper Krista Hedstrom, a Washington State Patrol spokeswoman, said an unidentified person called 911 at about 12:30 p.m. today advising of possible terrorist activities on a departing ferry. Hedstrom said 911 dispatch then lost connection with the caller.
The ferry Hyak left Bremerton at 12:35 p.m. and was turned around to the Bremerton dock where passengers were unloaded.
State patrol and the United States Coast Guard performed a satisfactory sweep of the vessel. The Coast Guard worked closely with Washington State Ferries and State Patrol to ensure passenger safety and restore service, according to the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard did not receive any additional reports of threats or suspicious activity, and there have been no reported injuries.
Roads, including Burwell Street and Pacific Avenue, leading into the Bremerton ferry terminal were temporarily blocked. Ferry service was returned just before 4 p.m. today.
