Reading across Central Kitsap
March 3, 2009 · 9:47 AM
Students in the Central Kitsap School District joined others across the nation to celebrate National Read Across America Day Monday, which honored Dr. Seuss' birthday.
At Emerald Heights Elementary School, Tank, the Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor bulldog mascot, visited several classrooms, while other classes created Dr. Seuss hats and read books like "Cat in a Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham."
The celebration highlighted the district's overall commitment to increasing students' reading abilities as well as the partnership between the Navy and the district, as several sailors and Marines spend time each week reading to students at various elementary schools.
