The Housing Authority of the City of Bremerton Board of Commissioners will close the waiting list for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program due to a lack of available vouchers and the large number of applicants already on the list.

Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on January 29. The waiting list will be closed indefinitely.

The housing authority has about 1,400 applications for the housing choice voucher program. Families are not leaving the rental subsidy program in the numbers they had in past years, according to a BHA press release.

The housing authority now helps more than 2,000 families in its voucher program. It will continue to issue vouchers and process applications currently on the waiting list as vouchers become available.
