The body of a boy washed ashore on Fox Island Thursday has been identified at 8-year-old Azriel Carver.
Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer confirmed the body is that of Azriel Carver who went missing along with his mother, 29-year-old Shantina "Kat" Smiley, Saturday night.
Troyer said that Coast Guard, divers and planes have been searching nearby waterways for signs of Smiley's body but that the tide has come back up. Searches will resume Friday, he said.
Pierce County sheriff's deputies were called to the south side of Fox Island Thursday after beach walkers spotted the body. Troyer said there are no houses nearby, and the scene is near a cliff. The body will be taken by boat.
Carver was a second-grader at Vinland Elementary in Poulsbo.
