April 13, 2010 · Updated 10:06 AM
A man who reportedly walked toward a Bremerton police officer with a knife Sunday, daring the officer to shoot him, said he had attacked a woman out of self defense because she made fun of him.
Bremerton police were called at about 8 p.m. to the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 12th Street after witnesses reported the 45-year-old man had assaulted a 20-year-old woman, reports said.
When the man saw the police officer on the scene, he appeared to flick out a knife blade, according to the reports. The officer drew his firearm and ordered the man to drop his weapons, but the man walked toward the officer, daring him to shoot him.
The man eventually dropped the knife.
The man was arrested for the investigation of first- and third-degree assault and booked into the Kitsap County jail.
Records indicate he had prior incidents involving police that were referred to Kitsap Mental Health.
