Crews from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue were called to Island Lake Thursday afternoon to reports of a man calling for help after falling out of his canoe.

When they arrived, they were told the 58-year-old Utah man had safely made it to shore, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue Spokeswoman Theresa MacLennan said.

A nearby fisherman swam out to help the man, but he declined. Both men refused medical attention from crews at the scene.
