A 20-year-old Silverdale man drowned in Island Lake Monday evening, according to a statement from Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies with engine and medic units as well as a rescue boat from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, responded to the lake after a 10:17 p.m. 9-1-1 broadcast of a missing person in the water.

The victim has been identified as Kristopher Scott Foisy. His body was located by divers the next day around 9 a.m. and investigators do not believe any criminal activity was involved.

Foisy was at the lake after park closing hours with two friends when he and another decided to go for a swim with their clothes on.

Out from the shore, Foisy told his friends that he was having trouble, authorities said. His two male friends attempted to swim out and find him but could not locate him. They heard the sounds of struggling stop and immediately called 9-1-1.

Divers from the Underwater Search and Rescue Volunteers of Kitsap County searched for Foisy until 2 a.m. and stopped because of safety reasons. They resumed the search after sunrise and found the man’s body in 14 feet of water, approximately 80 feet from the shore.

The Kitsap County Coroner will make a determination as to the cause and manner of death but at this time investigators are handling the case as an accidental death.
