Election 2005: Where we stand

With ballots due to the drop-off sites and the mailbox next Tuesday, here’s a wrap-up of what state-wide initiative measures the CK Reporter has decided to endorse or not.

We say yes to:

I-900 — Tim Eyman finally has a good idea to impose audits on every level of government with oversight directed by the state Auditor.

SJR-8207 — Municipal court judges should be allowed to serve on the Commission of Judicial Conduct.

We say no to:

I-330 — The insurance companies’ version of medical tort reform is narrow minded and shows little benefit to changing the industry.

I-336 — The attorneys’ answer to I-330 isn’t much better and creates too much bureaucracy.

I-901 — Ban on smoking in bars and bowling alleys infringes too far into personal property rights.

I-912 — Repealing the legislature-imposed gas tax without a suitable substitute shows short-sightedness and little hope for the state’s roads and bridges.
