It’s been almost four decades since the party known as Whaling Days started.

Much has changed. Instead of farm land there is a mall. A new, state-of-the-art YMCA is being built.

Much hasn’t changed, including a renewed push for Silverdale to become its own city.

Whether Silverdale becomes its own city, with its own City Council, with its own government, Whaling Days will still be held in the summer.

At least we hope so.

It’s another example of how a community need not be a city limits to know who is their neighbors.

This weekend take a trip down to Old Town and Silverdale Waterfront Park and stay awhile.

What you will find is your community.
