Captain's corner | Cougars girls basketball
High School: Central Kitsap High School
Team: Central Kitsap girls basketball
When Krista Stabler isn’t competing on the court, she’s working out at the gym, obsessed with building muscle and watching movies. “Love & Basketball” is her favorite flick, but Stabler’s top movie for last year is “Inception.”
Basketball is her life and she just likes having fun in her free time away from school. Stabler earned the team’s Most Valuable Player award last season.
We caught up with Stabler after school Tuesday.
Here’s what she had to say about being a captain, and more:
Q: How long have you been a team captain?
A: One season.
Q: How do you like being a captain so far?
A: I like it. I’m always the leader and loud spokesperson being outgoing. I love being a role model, too, and make sure everything is on track. I feel like people look up to you, and it shows a different step up having that title.
Q: What do you hope to teach your teammates?
A: I want our team to grow together and work as a team all the time.
Q: What are the challenges of being a captain?
A: You have to make sure everyone’s on track. You have to make sure everybody knows the rules and concepts and everyone keeps their cool on the court. We make sure people are playing the proper way and practicing sportsmanship.
Q: Favorite moment of the season?
A: Our victory against South Kitsap High School. We lost two straight games and came back against an undefeated team. Last year, my favorite moment was our buzzer-beater against Wilson High School to continue through the playoffs.
Q: Favorite class?
Q: Team goals?
A: We want to come out strong in our games, and finish strong. We always come out and slow down in the second half, so our goal is to play strong throughout the whole game.
Our hopes are to just make it to the postseason, because it’s really hard now that four teams from our league will make it.
