Kitsap youth wrestlers compete at regional tournament
Three youth wrestlers representing the Northwest Washington Wrestling Club of Kitsap County won four medals for Team Washington at the 2011 West Kids/Cadet Regional Championships June 25. The tournament was held in Pocatello, Idaho.
A total of eight wrestlers from Kitsap competed in the event, which included grapplers from 11 states.
Alex Sinclair, 8, of Bremerton, placed fourth in the freestyle Bantam 50-pound division. Sinclair defeated three state champions from Idaho, Nevada and Utah en route to a top-five finish.
Thor Michaelson, 7, of Bremerton, earned a fifth-place finish in the freestyle Bantam 55-pound division, ousting five opponents each by pinfall.
Brian Burchett, 15, of Seabeck, finished in fourth place at the freestyle and Greco-Roman tournaments in the Cadet 105-pound division. Burchett beat six wrestlers en route to a medal.
Additional competitors from Bremerton included Savannah Sinclair in the Bantam bracket and Kaylomb Parrish, a novice wrestler.
Roiel Sorensen and Josiah Sorensen, each from Seabeck, competed in the Bantam division.
Pumas host summer camps
The Kitsap Pumas soccer club has opened registration for its summer camps open to all ages and skill levels.
The camps are organized at various dates in Kitsap County between July 11 and Aug. 19. Locations include Howerton Field in Silverdale and Gordon Field in Bremerton.
Pumas players and coaches lead the summer camps, and a five-day, three-hour per day training session costs $110.
Campers receive a Pumas replica jersey T-shirt and ticket to an upcoming match.

East Bremerton Pee Wee football registration starts
Registration for the East Bremerton Pee Wee football team starts next week.
The program will open registration at the YWCA Community Center in downtown Bremerton from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 and Tuesday, July 12. A pancake breakfast and raffle will also be hosted from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9 at Aloha Kitchen in Silverdale. Tickets are $10. Registration for football will be accepted on site.
The Pee Wee team will hold a spaghetti feed at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at Manette Saloon in Bremerton. The cost is $5 per person at the door.

Silverdale Pirates win Bronco title
The Silverdale Pirates, a Pee Wee baseball team in the Bronco “B” division, won the league championship last week. Coached by Erik Dahl and Shawn Griswold, the Pirates claimed the title in the 11- to 12-year-old division. Players included Matthew Kramer, Nate Dahl, Tyler Winslow, Matt Love, Ryan House, James Gherna, Owen Hinds, Teagan Taafe, Ashlyn Morris, Chayse Becar, Hunter Porton and Nate Griswold.
Diamond Dusters win state title in Tri-Cities
The Diamond Dusters 97 club, of Bremerton, won the National Softball Association’s Washington State Championship last weekend in the Tri-Cities.
The Dusters won five of six games at the double-elimination tournament, beating the Capitol Lady Outlaws, Elma Eagles and Whatcom Warriors.
ISPN to air BlueJackets game
Kevin Mac will broadcast live coverage of the ISPN Sports Show from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday with highlights and interviews from the past week of sports on www.ispnsports.com.
The network is scheduled to broadcast the Kitsap BlueJackets’ baseball game against Nisqually at 6:05 p.m. Friday. The contest is an exhibition game for the BlueJackets.
