Olympic’s Justin Hike picked up where he left off last fall, earning the fifth seed out of the 3A West Central District III tournament last weekend at Tacoma’s Sprinker Recreation Center.

Hike opened with a pair of wins to lock up a state berth, the junior’s first.

He beat Kim Nguyen of North Thurston 6-3, 6-2 before topping Jefferson’s Connor Thorp 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.

He then fell to Derek Cooley of Fort Vancouver 6-1, 6-2. That set up the third-fifth match against Ryan Nagamatsu of Hazen. Nagamatsu won a tight battle6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Oly just missed out in doubles as Cory Smith and Scott Lutz fell in both their matches at districts.
