Trojans escape Bremerton with a win

"Erin Laird's second goal of the game provided the winning margin in the 76th minute and allowed her Olympic High School girls soccer team to escape from Bremerton Memorial Stadium with a 4-3 Olympic League victory over the Knights.Laird, a senior, gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead 11 minutes after halftime, which Emily Tracy enlarged to 3-1 six minutes later. But Bremerton leveled the score with goals by Alisha White and Azzizi Smith, only to have Laird notch the game-winner off a corner kick.That's kind of the way our whole season has gone, said Bremerton coach Lance McCoy. We put together a great comeback to pull even with them, and then they get a goal with three minutes left.We could've had a few more goals in the first half, McCoy added, but we had some bad luck that kept us out.Cara Johnson scored Oly's opening goal, which stood as the only scoring in the first half.Klahowya 3, Port Townsend 0: Hilary Crisman scored her ninth, 10th and 11 goals - and her third hat trick already this season - as the Eagles pounded league Class 2A stablemate Port Townsend on the road. Crisman also had a goal in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Port Angeles.VolleyballHomestanding Olympic interrupted Central Kitsap's victory march Tuesday night with a come-from-behind victory in the first game, then was swept away by the league-leading Cougars, 3-1.Game scores were 14-16, 15-3, 15-5, 15-3.Stephanie Brown paced the CK offense with five service aces and eight kills, while the Trojans got seven kills and four stuff blocks from Kristine Laverty.Central Kitsap 3, Pt. Townsend 0: The Cougars served up - literally - an easy victory against Class 2A Port Townsend Thursday, scoring 23 of their 45 points on service aces. Ann Rayburn and C.J. Hanson led the way with six aces each.Game scores were 15-1, 15-9, 15-6.Olympic 3, Port Angeles 1: The Trojans came from a game back Thursday for their third league victory, beating the Roughriders by scores of 14-16, 15-2, 15-0, 15-10. Sarah White and Amy Funke were big scorers from the service line for Oly, with eight and seven aces, respectively.Girls cross countryCathleen Willy paced a dominating performance by Central Kitsap's girls, who ran their dual-meet record to 6-0 by sweeping Port Townsend and Sequim.Willy - who covered the course in 19 minutes, 22 seconds - and Kim Reiland ran 1-2 for the Cougars, who also got top-10 finishes from Crystal Lundahl (fifth), Katie Trent (eighth), Christina Willey (ninth) and Jannel Emery (10th).At Port Angeles, Megan Walker-Richards was the individual winner, helping Olympic to a sweep over Port Angeles and North Kitsap. Walker-Richards' 19:37 clocking put her 45 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, Oly teammate Julia Corbett. Another Trojan, Heather McColl, was third.Boys cross countryCentral Kitsap earned a split at Port Townsend, beating Sequim 18-43 behind the second-place overall finish of junior Patrick Hunley. Hunley ran a 17:23, finishing 24 seconds behind Port Townsend's Jake Haskins. CK's Scott Eickmeyer was fourth.Olympic topped North Kitsap to earn a split in its meet at Port Angeles, where the powerful Roughriders improved to 6-0 and grabbed the top four individual places. Oly's Dan Frederick was fifth, and teammate Christian Walker-Richards scored eighth-place points.Girls swimmingAndria Giovanni and Erin Matthew each posted a state qualifying time to lead Central Kitsap to a 108-76 victory over North Kitsap in the Vikings' Poulsbo pool.Giovanni actually placed second behind the Vikings' Jacklene Salwei in the 200 freestyle, but both swimmers bettered the state qualifying standard, Salwei barely beating Giovanni to the finish. Her time of 2 minutes, 1.82 seconds topped Giovanni's effort by just nine hundredths.Matthew won both the individual medley and 100 free, taking the former event with a state qualifying time of 2:16.72.Other CK winners were diver Megan Bakeman, Ashley Heaslip (backstsroke), Abby VanNortwick (breaststroke) and the 200 medley and free relay teams. "
