"Sophomore Broc Gaboriault scored one goal and assisted on the other to lead the Central Kitsap High School boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over favored Bellarmine Tuesday in a first-round state Class 4A playoff game at rainy Silverdale Stadium. The win moves the Cougars, making their first-ever state tournament appearance, into the quarterfinal round and a game against Evergreen Saturday afternoon in Vancouver. The game will be played at McKenzie Stadium at 3:30 p.m. as the second half of a quarterfinal doubleheader. Decatur will take on Mountain View at 1 p.m. in the first game. Saturday's winners advance to the 5 p.m. semifinal game Friday, May 25 at Everett Stadium. Gaboriault fed freshman Keith Cain for the game's first goal midway through the second half, then drove the clincher home on an assist from John Anderson less than 10 minutes from the end. The Lions mounted a comeback in the final minutes which yielded a goal from Chris Walters, but it was too little, too late to keep the Cougars from becoming the first CK School District team to advance to the 4A Final Eight in soccer.
