CK Shelton in; Bremerton out of playoffs
June 11, 2008 · Updated 5:11 PM
The boys basketball playoff race is over and Central Kitsap and Shelton were named the winners Saturday morning, Feb. 15, by the Bridge Division athletic directors. The two teams, along with Bremerton, were in a three-way tie for the final pair of playoff berths in this Saturdays Narrows League tournament.
The athletic directors had a clear path to follow since league bylaws show that when it comes to ties the only thing that matters is head-to-head records.
Central Kitsap (7-7, 9-11), once treading near the bottom of the Bridge Division, earned the No. 3 seed with their sweep of the Highclimbers (7-7, 10-10). Shelton got the nod because of their sweep of the Knights.
Bremerton (7-7, 11-9) split their series with CK after a 70-53 loss to the Cougars Friday night.
By being the third seed, CK will automatically advance to the West Central District III tournament after playing the No. 3 seed from the Bay Division at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Shelton must win their game against the Bay No. 4 at 9 a.m. to advance to districts.
Things arent so clear-cut in the Bay Division where Olympia, Lincoln and Foss are in a three-way tie for second and are having a playoff this week to determine their seeding.
On the girls side, Central Kitsap and Port Angeles will determine whos No. 1 from the Bridge when the 13-1 teams faceoff at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Olympic High School. The Cougars won the first meeting in SIlverdale and the Roughriders won in Port Angeles.
The winner of that game faces Bay No. 1 Capital for the Narrows League title. Capital defeated CK 72-50 in a non-League game on Dec. 11 in what CK coach Denise Baxter declared the worst game of the season. The CK-PA loser faces Olympia.
