A car wash will take place Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Bainbridge Island Chevron to help raise money for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor and area soccer coach Casey Sullivan.

Sullivan coaches two FC Kitsap clubs while assisting at Central Kitsap. The car wash, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will raise money that will go toward Sullivan’s medical bills.

Car wash organizer Angelina Gallegos said she met Sullivan through FC Kitsap GU14, which she also is the team manger of.

Amazed at how much Sullivan has given to the community, Gallegos said it was time for him to be on the receiving end.

“What the young man has done for the kids around the area who are suffering with cancer is wonderful,” she said. “And he gives everything to this team. Since he came to this team this season, he has taught these girls how to give 110 percent, be tough, fight hard, believe in yourself and dedication to the game.”

The car wash will have a suggested donation of $10 but other donations will be accepted as well.

In addition to the car wash, Gallegos said a host of other benefit events are in the works.

First, she said a garage sale will take place next weekend on Aug. 27-28. She said team parents are still trying to decide the time and location for the sale. Donations of quality used items are being accepted now as well. To donate items, call (360) 307-0018.

The deadline to donate items for the garage sale is Aug. 26.

Also tentatively planned is a spaghetti feed and a comedy show. Gallegos said she also is trying to set up a bank account where donations can be made in Sullivan’s name.

“He is truly an inspiration to kids around Kitsap County,” Gallegos said. “My goal is to find people to help him out since he gives so much of himself and never asks for anything in return.”
