Cougar baseball sweeps Stadium
It was quite a week for Central Kitsap baseball player Drew Vettleson.
The CK left-handed slugger hit not one, but two grand slams in an eight-RBI performance in CK’s 20-3 victory over Stadium on Monday.
The Cougars (13-5 overall, 12-2 league) then beat Stadium 4-0 Wednesday to sweep the season series and hold steady in second place in the competitive Narrows League Bay Division.
Olympia (15-1, 13-0) has clinched the division.
Monday’s 20-run output was the latest in a series of offensive explosions by CK, which has scored 10 runs or more in four of its past five games.
Josh Winkler, Nate Roberts, Casey Bohlmann, Howie McDonald and Kyle Kunkel each had two hits Monday, with Bohlmann pitching a complete-game Wednesday.
The Cougars were scheduled to play Lincoln at 4 p.m. today, but that game was cancelled due to a Lincoln forfeit.
In fastpitch, the Lady Cougars (9-3, 7-2) split two games this week, beating Bellarmine Prep 6-2 Monday before losing to Stadium 10-6 Wednesday, snapping a five-game win streak.
Jenna Bartlett led CK at the plate against Stadium (12-1, 10-1), finishing with four RBI and a home run.
The team wraps up the regular season with games against Mt. Tahoma (4 p.m. Monday on the road), Gig Harbor (4 p.m. Wednesday at home) and Bainbridge (4 p.m. May 8 on the road) before the postseason begins.
