Silverdale Eagles soar to baseball title

The Silverdale Eagles defeated the Kitsap K-9s 4-2 to win the U12 championship last weekend at the fifth annual United States Speciality Sports Association Kitsap BlueJacket Invitational Youth Baseball Tournament.

Ten teams competed in the tournament, which also included a U10 division. In U12 action, The Puget Sound Pilots of Bainbridge Island captured third, while the South Kitsap Renegades finished fourth and the South Kitsap Sluggers fifth.

The Port Angeles Pirates defeated the North Kitsap Warriors 6-4 to win the U10 title. The women’s state championship concludes the USSSA Kitsap program Aug. 8-9 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. A total of 120 teams competed in USSSA events in 2009, drawing about 2,400 players and coaches and 10,000 fans.
